I'd have to say both. What would happen to a homeless and naked person in the sort of place that turtles live in? they'd probably demise. A turtle would most likely face the same fate.

I'd say it's a bit of both. But the sound of it not having a shell doesn't look good for the turtle!

He is naked because his shell is his suit of armor not his home. Now a snail who loses his shell is both naked and homeless.
