Yes it can you should see your doctor as soon as possible, if you believe your potassium levels are low. So he/she can do blood tests, and prescribe you the medication you need if required.

Low Potassium Symptoms

Usually the symptoms of low potassium are mild. At times they can be vague. Sometimes you may have more than one symptom involving the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, kidneys, muscles, heart, and nerves.

Weakness, tiredness, or cramping in arm or leg muscles, sometimes severe enough to cause inability to move arms or legs due to weakness (much like a paralysis)
Tingling or numbness
Nausea or vomiting
Abdominal cramping, bloating
Constipation
Palpitations (feeling your heart beat irregularly)
Passing large amounts of urine or feeling very thirsty most of the time
Fainting due to low blood pressure
Abnormal psychological behavior (depression, psychosis, delirium), confusion, or seeing or hearing things (hallucinations)

Low potassium is often aggravated by low magnesium levels. It is hard to correct hypokalemia until body magnesium deficits are also addressed. Try taking a calcium magnesium zinc pill 3 times daily with meals.
There are some good herbal products to help venous ciculation in the extremities. Check your local health food store for products. Valerian is sometimes helpful in ameliorating nocturnal muscle spasms.

I know when i am dieting for a bodybuilding show that low potassium causes me to cramp at a quicker rate. I would run straight for some Taurine to help elevate the cramping.
