I would have cursed him out lovely. I can hold my own even when being insulted but regardless the boyfriend shouldn't have allowed this person to insult his girlfriend's class. He doesn't have to get nasty but he could have told the guy that we're all adults here and can hold a civilized conversation without having to insult one another and he also should have said that he didn't' appreciate the fact that he did insult her class. If this ends up jeopardizing his promotion then that will say something about this man and also he could have some kind of fight on his hands legally because you shouldn't be able to hold someone back for protecting their significant other.

XaviersGirl,
I would have to know a few more things to make an assessment. The fact that the guys girlfriend had a debate that sounds like it got out of hand does not immediately mean that the man should be approached.
There would have to be more to the story in order for me to side with either side.

Her boyfriend is a coward. A man needs to stand by his woman, like a woman stands by her man. Even if the guy who insulted the woman was socially influential, a good man (or woman) will not accept favors from someone who insulted their loved ones. It is best to avoid getting into arguments with people who you need, but if it does happen, stick with your loved ones! If you disagree with the view of a loved one, then you can state that. But being a coward is unacceptable.

Well it depends what exactly was said doesn't it?
Maybe she just over-reacted.
What exactly was the insult? Tell me that and i'd tell you how much it would bother me etc.
Your question is complicated. Are you sure this "friend" isn't you, and you are trying to find out if your boyfriend was a bastard or not by not sticking up for you or whatever.

It depends, if my gf was in da wrong then i wud just take her away and make her calm down and see sense, if she was right i was just back her claim or whatver they are talking about, but i wnt be inslutng back or nothing, just try to come to a compromise and be civilsed and open minded so all parties agree and are happy.

sounds confusing...anyway
it really depends on what they were debating about
for me i would rather that if your someone brings you to a work function i would not get myself into that kinda situation..i mean you probably barely know those people..why make a commotion that would make both of you look bad?(even if it wasnt your fault, its stil a commotion whereby on-lookers wld just think this shouldnt be happening..)

conversations like that have no business being at that type of function...both parties are to blame for letting it happen...I applaud her boyfriend for trying to stop the scene in an adult manner.
