It is the sounds that actually count. Even in vedas when they are recited it the bheej Aksharas ( hidden letters or sounds) that actually count. The sounds are very powerful and if used correctly one can bring changes in the atmosphere also. Why simple the snake charmers use their flutes to bring out the snakes how is this possible and people shout and bringout sounds to drive away the elephants crowd. All these show that sound has that much of importance and naturally music when we consists of only sounds and they are so programmed that it is pleasent to the ears and therefore we enjoy listening to it.

I'M GLAD YOU ASKED!!!!!
Music is to the ear what candy is to the tongue. It's simply delicious! We do indeed enjoy listening to music, don't we? And may I take a few moments to remind all of us just how wonderful this ability is? We hear. How wonderful is that? We hear and understand one another's thoughts! How wonderful is that? When thoughts are too magnificent for words, we make music! How wonderful is that!? We listen to music - that audible expression transcending words. I thank God every day for my hearing. I tremble at the thought of being without it! I love the music we make! I even enjoy foreign music with words I can't even understand! I feel that if you can enjoy one type of music, you are gifted. But if you can enjoy many, you are truly blessed. I love everything from opera to bluegrass! I feel especially fortunate that my mind feels like it's on a vast playground when it listens to music. It picks out each individual instrument and follows it throughout the song, marveling at the musicianship of it all. Music is so wonderful. Can you imagine a world without it?

We enjoy the form and progression and conclusion of a piece.
In my second year theory class we 12 were asked who our top three composers were to listen to their music. Our group was made up of voice, keyboard, instrumental students - and one electric guitar guy.
While we disagreed on # 2 and #3 - - - - we all chose the same #1
Johann Sebastian Bach

Soft music can relax our minds, sooth our nerves. Other music can get us moving like on dance floor, still other music can simply uplift us.
It can literally change our moods, make our day.
I think it must work on changing the brain's way of percieving the moment. I like it.
Otherwise for me it is BBC7 comedy, suspense, sci or drama. All good stuff.
