yes, it is. 100 years ago you'd die of horrible diseases and infection, thugs, nature's wrath, wars (the last decade registered the lowest rate of wars in the history of mankind), poverty etc.

Tough question. In terms of armed conflict the world in general is better off or safer than a 100 years ago. Communication between countries back then was limited which resulted to misunderstanding and eventually two World Wars. Though threats from terrorists exist today, it is unlikely we will experience another major World War that will put the entire world in jeopardy. People have become devout capitalists. War is simply bad for business.

No,
it depends on what you are calling safer! 100 years ago Mob riots would kill a person and it would be justified in the community.
However depending on where you live you could be killed for looking at someone cross-eyed.
Thieves and murderers have always existed. but I truly think they have greater numbers today than a hundred years ago.
However, in the days of Christ, i found a book which describes how the disciples of Jesus were murdered, murderers existed in boldness and killed in public places

safer from diseases due to medicine advances...there were no antibiotics and people would die of simple diseases that could be cured now with a five or ten day dose of antibiotic
but not safer from others...People are more disrespectful now. Of course there were bad people back then, but many many more now.
not safer in vehicles and aircraft...since they did not have these things then, there were no dangers of them.

it depends on what you call safe. Today you can travel almost anywhere in the western world and be quite safe from violence. Mobs and riots are rare if not non existent in said nations.
but then again with the nuclear age we could all die in a matter of hours and their is nothing we can do about it.
