It all comes from ignorance, therefore it's a conscious unawareness. :)

Most people definately do not respect others feelings, beliefs and value systems. People have become ignorant to others needs and wants.
We all spout tolerence and acceptance but its a facade for our true feelings. We are all striving for our own gain and personal agendas. We know that by law we are not to discriminate but we cant help ourselves. We all have our individual rights and we dont let anyone violate them but we dont mind trampling anyone elses, but the leagl system has this covered, just take legal action.
We have been forced into this competiton with each other by employers, governments and the never ending promotion by commercial enterprise to be the biggest and best and stuff evryone else.
The only solution I can see is implementing education programs into school systems to encourage respect for self and others and perhaps some community based program to address the issue.
This is the most negative answer I have ever given, I think you hit a nerve. I personally try to respect, tolerate and show empathy for others. I have endeavoured to teach my children and their friends the same and that is all I can do.I dont tolerate discriminating behaviour toward people regardless of religion, race, sex, gender, age, sexual preference, members of minority groups etc etc.
I hope you get some more positive feed back than this, I apologise for the downer.

Morals are a personal thing. If you try to hold yours to others, you will be frustrated and disappointed. Get in touch with your own feelings, show others how to be aware by example.
