Defragging SHOULD help your PC to run faster, but it's not a gaurentee. There are dozens of reasons your computer can experience slowdown. Most people say to defrag once a week or once a month, which I think is too much. You would have to be installing programs, uninstalling programs, creating files, and deleting files pretty often to see significant speed increases by defragging once a week. I probably only get around to it once every 6 months and it's never a problem. Obviously the size of your hard drive factors into this and what you use your computer for. Experimentation is the best way to find what you need.

Yes defragmenting does help your pc run faster and perform better. Defragmenting simply makes files on your pc smaller and corrects errors in the registry. I would say it's best to defragment your pc once a week. Unless you have Windows Onecare Live , it does it for you weekly. You can set it to tune up your pc weekly which includes a deframent, disk clean up and virus/spyware scan. Hope this helps. :)

I once helped my friend to clean up and defragment his computer. He said it made a lot of difference. Virus can also cause pc slowdown. Also having too many start -up programs can also slow down your pc at start up. As to the frequency of defragmenting your pc, it depends on your usage. Heavy users will need more frequent clean ups and defragmenting.

De-fragmentation is sure making access to files faster, to do that I think the best is once a month but it depends also how often you write big files like MP3 if you download plenty of files at a time it's recomended to do that more often, disk or file must defrage when you write multiple file at once but mostly operating system handle file defragmentation when writing files one by one even if one file at start of disk and second at end it wont mater so much.

The most needed case when you have large data file that is located in many places, it create plenty of movement for hard disk head reading from first track to mid to last some files is splitting into 100,000's pices and more that is a delay in reading.

defrag does help providing you do alot of work on the computer. I would recomend doing it once a month. Unless you do alot of computer work and online alot then i would do it one every 2 weeks. no need to do it anymore then that. All defrag does is rearranges the files on your hard drive virtually so windows knows where to locate the files faster. hope this helps ya.

Absolutely it does make a difference in the speed of your pc.

I don't defrag mine but like every month or so. Or when it starts slowing down to a crawl I start looking for a problem, starting with a defrag first.

If you do a lot of surfing, you might need to do it more often.

Yes, it makes applications start faster. But, you don't have to defrag twice a week!! Once a month or 20 days will do.

Yes it does! Files tend to get spread all over your PC. The reason for this is that when you save a file, windows looks for all available unused hard drive space. It may find a little chunk here, another chunk there, etc. As you use your computer, the saved file tends to end up all over your hard drive. Defragging puts all these files back together again and it takes far less time for your hard drive to find the file!

It really help your PC work faster, as it sorts the files and folders in an order which helps reaching the files faster - like an index sorting.

If you do not notice that your PC is working slower than before, or if you do not install and uninstall programs very often, you do not need to perform the defragmentation more often than once every 2 to 3 weeks.

by simply word; by defragmented the system, helps to organise your system in a proper way. PC may slightly run smoother.
it's not really neccesary to run defrag like weekly or something, but you ll need to analysed your PC, (option to analysed available in Defragment.) to see whether you need t defrag or not. All the best
