I'm a Wiccan and I don't believe in black magic. Also a number of Witches and Wiccans believe the same, that it is entirely made up.
There is magick that is used specifically for negative purposes but it is not called black magic by anyone whose opinion and knowledge hold any weight.

There is no black magic. Magic is indiscriminate about what it is used for, good or ill. Its the practitioner that can fold the magic to their sway. Magic is not good not evil, positive nor negative. Its the intention behind the use that makes it that way.
Now then, you have bad practiioners and good practitioners, who like to taint the colour of the magic "black" or "white" to justify what they're doing to themselves. I mean, using negative inspired magic for the right purposes is white, isn't it?
Now I'm not wiccan, I don't follow the harm none rede of theirs since they won't explain their definition of harm to my satisfaction. Any who read this can feel free to get in touch with me and try to if they -really- want. I just follow my own sense of right and wrong. A lot of people I've dealt with in mingling circles call me a black practitioner because I don't follow their rede. Its just another form of propaganda they use to make themselves feel better about themselves.

Black Magic is a collective term for all the psychology, legerdemain, symbolism and hocus pokus that convince people of inherent evil forces. White Magic is the opposite where the collective thoughts radiate well-being. A great deal of symbolism is placed on pentacles, candles, silver, salt and blood as representing the mystical powers that surround us. Many of the primitive tribes made masks so to enhance their image Black Magic works!...but only if you have gullible victims on which to use it. We use it in medicine, the church uses it continuously but obviously for different reasons. We can talk a person to death, by repeatedly telling him that he looks ill and if he is gullible enough, then the idea preys on his mind and an organic disease process can be created. A colleague of mine believed that he would die of a cerebral abscess (we were interns together) and it worried him, he had countless tests done that showed him to be normal...but shortly after Christmas, he was especially glum, within two days he was hospitalized and died there...the post-mortem was a cerebral abscess...I am sure there will be many that say he had prescience, but I am convinced he talked himself into the problem. The leaders of many tribes are boss because of their strength or their intellect, and some use this method (such as Papa Doc Duvalier of Haiti) to enforce the obedience and obtain fear because of their mystical powers. Many satanists claim a kinship with evil and claim vast power over dark secrets and some even resort to human sacrifice to attempt to gain favor with evil. People believe in magic because we don't know how something was done...i.e. the illusions of David Copperfield....not because it is real. There are many things in the world that need more clarification and study but black magic is not one of them.

Black magic or dark magick is the branch of magic that is used to perform evil acts or that draws on malevolent powers. In the Inquisition, Christians were afraid of witches and warlocks practicing evil black magic.

black magick is a different source of witchcraft magick.it is practiced by dark witches of the craft.black magick is considered evil to alot of ppl but that is not true.it is the same thing as the regular magick except through night.dark witches practice magick through night time and enjoy doing their rituals at night.so you see, this has nothing to do with it being evil.although there is another meaning of black magick which is like voodooism.that is not evil either.although voodoo is a totally different religion it is still considered not evil unless the practitioner uses it as evil.i practice black magick through the paganism religion and dont consider myself as an evil witch.i just do my rituals through night.i hope this explains your question as it is a very important question on the topic of black magick.
blessed be,

In nature there is both dark and light just like there is Day and Night. In every religion there are good people and bad ones. In Wicca the good ones are called Witches, the Bad ones are Warlocks. They have betrayed their coven or the craft. We have a rule that we live by, Do as thou wills as long as it harms none.
I live by that rule for I am Wicca and have been practicing for 12 years.
Black magick to us is the work of dark one or dark forces. Not to be confused with Satanism which is the Dark side of Christianity.
Often too many link them. While it is very similar there is no Devil in Wicca So he would not be in dark magick. In Dark magick they would call on the dark gods and goddess'
The Do as thou wills as long as it harms none means no one. Not yourself or anyone elses. I cant walk up and touch you becasue that would be harm. Harm means harm. Nothing to explain on that.

Out of the answer you have gotten I would say Chris has it Right. She explained it well. It was not practiced at night since most Wiccans do theirs at night too. How else could we draw down the moon?
