Terrorism is usually ideology driven and fueled by poisonous interpretation of religion. How far this crosses the line from internal issues of the ex-soviet bloc or remains independent to soviet mobster intrigue remains a grey area.

Military junta and remnants of the Cold War were part alienated by Western democratic states who abed out of respect to the sovereignty of a nation state, in the hope that the machine de party nationale disintegrates or degenerates. Evolution through corporatisation under hands of unscrupulous and unprincipled organisations, has allowed unchecked violence to precipitate beyond the borders of the ex-C.C.C.P. (U.S.S.R.).

At face value, the methods of the post-cold war communist government places hard currency into hands of disenchanted and poor people that served the polit buro. Rent-a-kill advertisements as recalled in local Russian papers and periodicals(1), whilst not driving these trades underground, serves to validate a flourishing industry and a means to put food on the table. Russian “entrepreneurial Moguls” under the Capitalist pretext, employs methods reminiscent of the removal of the last Tsar and the Bolsheviks, except in a corporatised form and not easily traced back.

In the very least, the ex-soviet bloc should take responsibility of the fights spilling out of their backyard. This is simply without Honour; the old spies were for mother Russia. Does the new cohort of intelligence have the slightest inkling of word; or it goes to the highest bidder without principles ?

Not so long along, a special investigative unit of the Iraqi police closed down offices of “Al-Mustaqillah” newspaper in July and arrested the newspaper's office manager. According to a press release posted on the Coalition Provisional Authority (http://www.cpa-iraq.org), Al-Mustaqillah published on 13 July executed an inciteful [sic] article entitled “Death to all spies and those who cooperate with the U.S.; killing them is religious duty.”

In Ian Fleming's novel, Goldfinger is suspected of being the paymaster of Smersh and in instituting “Smiert Spionen”, death to all spies. The Soviet counterintelligence operation in reality assassinated people who fought against communism, openly and covertly.

A knee jerk reaction of the democratic states would be to institute “Death to all ex-Soviet Spies” to curtail what appears to be the whispers of the snake’s offspring. Similarly, another popular call could be envisaged in the form of a moratorium on application of the death penalty should be instituted. Yet these measures do not curb the source of the illness: What is the source ?

A contention is that the social-economics of communism is very much alive. The people need food, heating and jobs, but certainly not at the cost and through validation by mafia’s corporatised military (war between the oligarchs) and what appears to be old methods brought to bear on Putin’s Russia.

The ugly truth may be that a snake is required to poison a snake. Putin placed some very talented and good men to clean up the banking institutions rife with ill gotten gains, only to be gunned down no less. It ventures that more protection of key players that are pro-society are required, not less.

Needless to say, the demand for violence must be nipped with multi-tiered approach that allows the average man in Russia to live, mindful that the aegis of communist privileges no longer serves to feed, clothe and house these people.

One can only ponder the effects of Glasnost and perhaps also Perestroika, if U.S.S.R. had more goodwill, humbleness and humility to accept foreign assistance in their political transition. Even now, may not be too late.

The papers “Whatever the future holds for British energy supplies, this country must not be a safe haven for international thuggery.”

The whole issue is a "RED herring".
It has nothing to do with the Russian government, he was just not important.
This is an issue between the Russians in London and he has taken or owes money.
The doctors are even now not sure what the poison was

This is not terrorism. Sadly, being a spy is a dangerous job, and Alexander Litvinenko (former Russian spy) knew exactly what he was getting into when he became a spy. It's the nature of the business I am afraid. He knew too much!!!! And he paid the price with his life. This is how spies operate - and certainly Russian spies. There is so much politics and protocol that comes with being a spy, the job itself is extremely unrewarding. What's more, if it hadn't been for the media, we would never have known..............

Sad, scary and wrong I know, but that's the nature of the beast.

Russians have preferred targeting and 'eliminating' dissidents 'quietly' since Stalin ordered the murder of Trotsky in Mexico over 80 years ago.

Nothing new for an old KGB'er like Putin.

The Russian Nationals who did this murder are not terrorists. A terrorist creates fear in all. You don't know if you're next. When I hear that a Russian 'hit' has been made I do not fear for my life. I just know that someone who complained too much (and too loud) got silenced.

I'd keep your complaining on the down low... Shhhh!

(You just never know!)

Here is London, UK. I think it was to shut him up, not a true act of terrorism. Equally, it is terrifying to know that they can do such a thing. The cold war revisited!!!

I think the whole thing is some kind of elaborate PR ruse to coincide with the launch of Casino Royale and get spying back at the top of all our thoughts again
