Did you go out to eat on Thanksgiving?

Question

If so did you tip nicely, with the thought that the server and staff would have loved to be with their own families on this day?
You did not have to shop for, cook, or clean up the mess from this giant meal, right?
Did that all occur to you?
I worked and made good $$, just wondering about feed-back on this topic.

We did eat out, and we tipped very well because of that exact reason. Our waiter was kind enough to make us feel welcome and not make us feel guilty for him having to work, he deserved to be compensated well for going to all the trouble for us.

My family and I did go out to dinner however, our server only showed up at our table twice. The first was to tell us, along with the others in our dining area, that the buffet was now ope and the 2nd time was to bring me the bill which was in error. She had 3 adults listed on there. She never asked if my mother was a senior or if my daughter was a child, she just assumed everyone was an adult and charged the high price for the buffet. We saw the gentlemen pouring water more than our server. She never asked if we wanted something to drink, coffee, wine, soda, nothing.

So even though we did not see her except twice like I said above, I still tipped 15%. If it was off the menu and if we would've seen our server I might've tipped 20% because of the fact that the restaurant (inside a hotel) was open, but since it was a buffet and basically no service from the waitperson's I opted for 15%. And yes it did occur to me that I didn't have to shop, cook, clean up, etc., though it would've only been for 3 not a large group as a good majority of people do on Thanksgiving.

I know some people who would only tip 10% because of it being a buffet (yes I do know these people, it's not just an "I think they might" thought) but since others are involved I didn't. However, I do hope that any tips earned is shared among the stuff and not just the waitpeople & buspersons, sometimes the cooks are forgotten. Sad but true.

Sorry you had to work on Thanksgiving, but it's good to hear you at least made some good money. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your evening and relax. :o)

I cooked at home, but it use to wait tables and i know how difficult it is on the holidays, it gets so busy and some times you just can't think straight the customers can be so demanding and they don't understand why your not sitting there waiting on there beckon call, People need to be nicer to the ones who serve them in the restaurant business and retail because if it wasn't for us they wouldn't survive. People just need to realize that were human too.

I ate at home. But you are right there are lots of people who had to work. I always tip my waitress for good service. But a lot of people are unaware of how little a waitress is paid,my daughter is a waitress also and makes about 2.70 an hour. So if you go out to eat today tip your waitress for good service.

I used to wait tables and when I worked on Thanksgiving I would make really good tips. When my husband and I go out (We don't eat out on holidays) we always tip good if we get good service because I know how hard food service is.

Working in the service industry sucks this time of year. I am a nurse's assistant in a long-term care facility and never have off on holidays. But it's all cool because they pay us DOUBLE TIME AND A HALF!!! Plus, I get to be with my other family of extended grandparents and crazy co-workers. And I ate so much more tonight than I would have if I was at home. Every ward had a great spread and made me eat something each time I came around. I don't know how I'm still awake...Guess the "itis" is wearing off finally...MMM Thanksgiving....

Nope - I cooked. As for your tips or whether people gave you what you think you deserved, if you don't like your job, get another one. People who go out to eat pay plenty for all those things you mentioned. If the service sucks, why should they tip?
