IN A NUTSHELL----- It started during the institution of slavery when a white slave master would rape a black slave woman and produce a biracial child. The biracial offspring were favored over the darker-skinned blacks. They were assigned to house work instead of laboring in the fields, received some education and some were even offered freedom. Because of psychological brain washing even after slavery a black hierarchy formed where light-skinned blacks were at the top. The lighter black with "good hair" and eyes,, usually had better jobs and received better education. Also when Europeans conquered the world, they established the definition of beauty and the symbolism of wealth and power. So all over the world from Asia to the Caribbean, other people of color have long-standing societal hierarchical systems based on skin tone, created out of colonialism. This still affects people today all over the world. If you look at the Spanish channel you will see mostly white or lighter Spanish people.. and you will hardly see darker, brown, and black Hispanics, even though they are a significant percent of the Hispanic population. Society and people in control, manipulate the mind.. the mind controls your thoughts and perceptions, so this is why some people are still brain washed about hair and eyes like you said.

I'm not black but I have a thought on this topic. I think in many cultures, light skin and eyes are praised. Just think back to the Victorian era, when porcelin skin was the ideal for Caucasions. Even in India and Asia, lighter skin is prized over darker skin. I don't know why but it's just something I've observed.

I kinda know what you mean. I am a coulered(mix race in South Africa). When some of the coulerd girls finds out that there grandma or grandpa was white then they tend to act like they better then everyone. I had friend that used to keep talking bout their indian, white, arabic ancestors. They never knew that i hav white,german,dutch,indian,khoi-san(african race) family heritage. I am proud of all those ethnic group
i gues it has to do with their type of mentality. They still believ that white is better. They sud embrace all their ancestors and be proud of who they are.

Historically, the were looked at as better by the slave master and as a result blacks wanted the white man's favor. It wasn't long before it was obvious that the lighter you were the whiter you were, hence the better you were. And as much as things change things stay the same.

For some reason people want to appear better than others. I dont understand why we cant just be different from each other and all be equal for God's sake. "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal and independent; that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"....

I dunno...But the opposite is true too. My cousin feels that, because his dad is black, he is less racist than the rest of us. But him saying that that is in itself contradictory. Somehow, even though we have the same upbringing, he has been opressed and "we" (the caucasian family members) wouldn't understand .

I think you know the answer...historically and basically under these comments is an implication that the closer to white the more desirable one is. That, and people also want to stand out.
