Sorry I wasn't very specific earlier but I'm specifically looking for authors writing in English where English is their second language. The Irish did have many good authors but as strange as their language may sound its still English. I'm still surprised no one is mentioning Salman Rushdie.

In my opinion, Vikram Seth's such an author, his "A Suitable Boy" is readable, understandable with great characters regarding the Indian families.

Nuri Garimara (Doris Pilkington) wrote a couple of very good books about the lot of the Aborigines under the British. I couldn't put her books down.
