isnt 2 GB the limit? I havnt heard of 4GB ram, but that would be amazingly fast, i have 2 gb right now and i am in love with the speed.
would you b able to upgrade PCs with 2gb ram max? b/c that is how mine is, and if they up the ram, id like to maximize it too
hehe :)
the vista comes out sometime in january, i think the 9th or 19th or something like that. close.

RAM - Random get entry to memory the version between your not easychronic and your RAM is RAM is speedy and detrimental mutually as the HDD is particularly gradual and everlasting. RAM is a memory for each and all the records you're at present using, the recreation you're enjoying, the record you're using , the working gadget. RAM is rather quickly and has no shifting areas. the draw back is that as quickly because of the fact the ability is switched off the records disappears. The HDD shops each and all the records on your pc. once you pick to get entry to something, (a recreation, record etc) the HDD plenty the records into the RAM so the processor can see and use it right now and efficently. The HDD doesnt place self belief in ability nonetheless and in case you have a powercut or unplug the pc the records is risk-free. HDD can fail nonetheless, precision shifting areas shifting at severe speeds continuously run the possibility of failure.

I had an enginer at my work place tell me that unless you have a system that is totally 64 bit, from the operating system on down, that your computer will only use a maximum of 3 gig of ram.
unless vista runs as a totally 64bit enviroment, 3 gig is all you will ever need

"They" say that computers are always obsolete within a year of purchase anyway. Things are always coming out that are bigger and better.
I'd say why wait, go for a 2Gb with the latest style of RAM so that he can upgrade later. But make sure that the machine he's buying hasn't got a type of RAM that's becoming extinct!

A 32 bit Windows application is limited to accessing 2 GB of user space (that is virtual space where some data can be paged out to disk) with 2 GB used by the OS Kernel. A 64 bit CPU application with 64 bit Windows can see virtual space of 8388 GB, according to my 64 bit benchmarks - free from:

Unless your doing advanced graphic editing you need no more than 1.5gs. Also waiting for vista is umm redundant as most companies are offering free updates to vista as people are deciding to wait like your father. I would even suggest grabing a 1g upgradeable to 4g later.

The obsolescence clock begins as soon as the clerk closes the cash drawer.
If it's time for a new comp, get one. Next month's models will ALWAYS be better, stronger, faster, cheaper.

2GB is enough for Vista.
I have 1GB in my laptop, and can play HL2 in Vista, quite smooth. (mobility radeon x700)
