I work in county government, and there are many great benefits to working in a government entity.

We have 12 paid holidays, 12 vacation days, 12 sick days, 2 personal business days, and a floating holiday to start. We have free bus passes, good health, dental, life, and vision insurance, and we are part of the state retirement plan.

Clerical positions anywhere can be stressful or boring, and government is no different. Getting your foot in the door and surviving the six month introductory period, however, guarantees you a lasting career that is very secure in a fluctuating job market!

Once you do get your foot in the door, there is huge opportunity for advancement, and job shifts within the government entity. Priority is given to present employees, and you can work your way up to any career you want! A college degree is helpful though.

As far as a link? Go to your county, state, or federal employment sites and see what jobs are currently being posted. Always apply for actual openings, and make sure your qualifications listed on the resume match the requirements of the job description. Good luck!

Practically guarranteed job position, no layoffs, greatest benefits possible, good union protection, earlier retirement than in private industry, and in the furture those without a government job will be on welfare because everything else will be outsourced overseas or done by illegal immigrants.
