I don't have that much of an interest in gaming with the PSP. Maybe one game. But if I can use it as a regular media player, how many movies can I store? what formats does it use?

A software cracked version can take in FFMPEG produced PC video AVI files, on Memory Stick, don't recall the format; but the procedure does depend on what BIOS version is on that PSP, I think most recent for it to work on is 1.5; any higher Sony locked it for marketing purpose.

If you follow it Sony's way it would cost an arm and leg.

PSP portable has its own movie format( of the three major ones: PSP, DVD, HD DVD) . Just go to any store and you can find movies for it. The only problem with music is you end up paying a fortune in memory cards to store it if you have alot of music.
