I am trying to decide what to study when I go back to school. Am interested in journalism, but am concerned I'll be the oldest. How petty is that? But I know journalists sometimes have to do a cadetship. Opinions?

You didn't say how old you are but it is unlikely that you are too old. As to being in class with students who are younger than you, you will find that they will look up to you. Also, students who decide to go to college after they are no longer of traditional college age usually do better than the younger students because they are more serious and determined - also, they don't get so bogged down in extracurricular activities.

Journalism students have to do one or more practicums - but I don't see how age will be any detriment to doing them successfully.

No age is "too old". Age is not the factor you should use to determine whether or not you are going to study journalism.

You should decide that based on 1. how much you are interested and 2. how hard you are willing to work.

Good luck.

Yes, to the cadetship question, but go with what you really want. If you have the guts to go back to school, all power to you. Live your dream. Good luck.

you're never too old to learn
look at it as balancing the alternatives... a few years study followed by work you find stimulating and enjoy.... or years of the same routine you have now
choose whichever will make you happy and (hopefully) fulfill you
