I've used mine on a glass counter top, and never had any problems. But I don't know whether it is a good thing to do or not!

I have a three year old and a glass top table. First off it is hard to clean like someone else mentions, not matter what you do after a toddler gets to it, it will never look clean agian. Now for the first year of our owning it she never had a problem with it, it wasn't until a few months ago that she was pushing on it and it fell off, this thing is very heavy and i about had a heart attack. If it would have fallen on her it would have been very very bad. I want to get rid of it but haven't had a chance to replace it yet. So from experiance i would say no, not a good idea. Hope this helps.

Glass is safe. Steel or any kind of metal surface is bad. But glass, don't see the reason for not been able to place a Laptop.

Absolutelly, and glass is a cool mass that will help cool the air as it is sucked by the laptop fan and keep the processor cool.
Talking about sucking air, make sure you never forget a sheet of paper under the laptop as it will be sucked, lifted from the table, and block the air entrance and, well you know that will be very bad.

Nothing should happen because the laptop is elevated enough to let the fan withing the laptoppush out the warm air, the glass or wood will get warm though (i would elevate your laptop by putting something under it giving it more room to breath).

Yes. In fact my laptop seems to stay the coolest when on my glass table. Just make sure it is a sturdy table to withstand the weight of your hands when typing.
