California's current two senators (Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein) are the first two women to be elected to the U.S. Senate in the same election (in 1992) from the same state.
In 2006, Claire McCaskill (of Missouri) and Amy Klobuchar (of Minnesota) were elected to the Senate, bringing the total number of female senators to an all-time high of 16.
