FIRST you must complete your four years of college, you will major in a subject such as English or Math and in Secondary Education. Your Education courses will cover the portfolio and required classes. You will be required to student teach for a semester as well. It is very likely that it will take you a minimum of 4.5 years if not 5. The state of WI has standards that you must reach including a Student Teacher Aptitude test, classes in History, the environment, special education (even if you are not a special ed teacher) Wisconsin has some of the most rigorous teaching requirements and most states will accept your degree and certification with no problem.
