either you have given your address to a site that has sold it to others, or someone you know has used your info and it has meant spam to your inbox. dont reply to it, dont even clink on the links that say will stop the emails. list them as spam in your inbox and eventually they will stop.

The other answers do not really address the problem. Filters work unless the spammer uses a new trick like images. No, if you ignore them and just report them as spam, they will NOT eventually stop. However, do not reply to them as it will result in more spam. The only thing I have found so far that completely eliminates spam is a free email service I found at http://www.EnterTo.com that uses channels so that you can use the same email address everywhere and if you start to get spam you just delete that channel.

Everyday you use email for so many things. From any of those mails, your id is extracted by unscrupulous persons who then send spam to you. You are one among the thousands they send it to. We cannot avoid it. Just install a filter in our email and if the spam still come, just select them together and delete them without opening. Just a matter of a few seconds.

Email data are stolen in bulk for spamming. So they do not choose to whom it is to be sent. It is a mass process. If you send it to 1000, at least 4 or 5 may be lured.
