Ok, I know I'm biased since I live here, but the best to me is Central California. The weather is great (we don't get hurricanes and tornadoes, and there is very little humidity, so summers aren't bad). The thing about earthquakes is practically a myth. Yes, we get them, but large ones only occur about every 15-20 years or so. It's not a yearly event like some people fear. Where else can you travel a half hour away to see the ocean, an hour to see redwood trees, and another hour to go snow skiing, then return to farm lands and vineyards? I know of no other state with as much diversity of people either. In San Francisco alone, you can visit little Italy (North Beach), China Town, Russian Hill, Japan Town, Ireland (the Sunset District).

Have you considered some sort of grand tour?

If you skip Hawaii (unless you're really flippin' rich...), you can do a pretty incredible tour of the US in a week or so. Admittedly you don't get to see all that much at each site, but you've got great bragging rights.

And if you have more time you could even hit alaska, even mexico.

More details on time would be highly useful.

Like do you have time constraints? Money constraints?

California is probably the most varied - from frosty to warm.

On the other hand - you could run the entire east coast, which isn't all that much longer, and go from balmy beaches to freezing waters.

More info please...???

This would be a great one if I could answer in more detail...

peace,

Well, since this question is opinion, I will give mine:
Minnesota because it is a beautiful state that experiences all types of weather. There are several site seeing things to do and lots of nice scenery. Make sure to go through Wisconsin then on to South Dakota. Wisconsin is an incredibly beautiful state especially the farther north. South Dakato doesn't have too much to see, but you could go the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore etc. If you are going in the winter though, check the weather forcast first.

If you are just traveling any state would be a good state (except of course Oklahoma highways are realllly rough) but they all look the same from inside a car. Unless you plan on actually getting out of your car than the neatest one is montana and from inside a car new jersey is pretty interesting

California. Big state -- lots of room to drive around in-- many types of weather and terrain. Cool and rainy in the north; then south to Lake Tahoe, Yosemite; or, go to the beach (Hwy 1 is beautiful!). Visit the desert; climb the mountains. Go skiing. It's got everything!

Oregon. It has everything a nature lover could want. The mountains for skiing and hiking, rivers, the ocean, sand dunes. I love it here.
