I have a Royal Poinciana tree planted in my back yard. The tree is about 12’ tall and 4-6 years old. When I bought it from a nursery 3 years ago it had some blooms on it. The tree did not have a single bloom since then. I am not sure what I can do to get it blooming again. Any Ideas?

How far did you move it from where you bought it?
I had a Royal Poinciana Flamboyant tree and found out that it doesn't do to well above the area of Orlando Florida. Though I saw one growing in a park in Kissimmee, just North of Orlando. It grows best in Key West Latitude or warmer.Try spanking it with a newspaper like a dog, it will help it's circulation (can't hurt). Is it hurt? I bumped into mine with my riding mower once and I thought it would survive, but it became "lame" and wouldn't bloom on the side that it got hit. Did it have a bad winter? Maybe it got too sick to bloom. It's a tempermental tree. I'm no expert, but try looking at environmental factors that might have affected the tree. Good luck.

Poinciana trees need some time to get reestablished in the soil after transplanting. However , after 3 years, it should be back to normal. It is important not to overfertilize, especially with nitrogen. This promotes vegetative (leaves) growth but actually inhibits flowering. Also, it should be watered thoroughly but infrequently. Check the moisture of the soil down several inches, not just relying on the surface soil condition. Let the soil dry somewhat between waterings. This should also help induce the plant to flower. The only other factor is temperatures, but assuming you are in an appropriate climate, the fertilizer and water factors should help get the plant to flower.

Go back to the nursery where you purchased this from and tell them (the Horticulturist) of the problem you are having with this, and see if they can help you.

Good luck
