If it is not mainstream how would I know about it. I am not in the music business... besides, "new" music is really pretty bad. I can not even name a good album since Radiohead's OK Computer came out. Stick with the good stuff.
Zeppelin
Doors
Cream
Guns n Roses
Queensryche
Cure
Depeche Mode
Bauhaus
Beatles

Listen to From First To Last. I dont know if you would consider them "Mainstream" or not, but it shouldnt matter. They are a good band.
By the way, no this band isnt flooded all over MTV either. So they arnt as "Mainstream" as alot of other bands.

Emery (emo)
Living Sacrifice (death metal)
He Is Legend (metal insanity)
Underoath (screamo/metal)
Showbead (post hardcore/screamo/punk rock/metal, they're crazy.)
Anberlin (rockish emo stuff...)
Foolish Things (awesome rock/alternative, beautiful music.)
None of them are mainstream.
