I think it has increased the expectations of music consumers...

Illegal music downloads make it wasy to commit to getting all kinds of music in a really short period of time...if you don't like it, you just delete it...

Now, some people really must really like an artist before dropping money down to buy their tunes...

However, I don't think it has really hurt music sales, artists are getting crazy money for their albums, sales are still going platinum and some cases diamond...

also, it has changed the dynamic as a lot people just download the one song they know from an artist, they may not buy the whole album...if they like one song, they can just download the one track for 99 cents...when they are sick of it, hit delete!

a lot of bands have gotten exposure from offering a free download or offering a single for sale only online at their website...

alternative/underground bands are gaining popularity without sacrificing themselves to the whims of a record company...they may not be rich but they are reaching a larger audience...

These are kind of disjointed thoughts but are some of the things I've noticed about the whole online music thing...

the bottom line is, people are expecting quality...they want it faster...and they want limitless options which is what the internet gives them...

we plug into our iPods and tune out the world, if anything, music has gotten more popular due to the internet...illegal download or iTunes...we are plugging in more and more all the time...
