cool idea, but how do we differentiate between what is and isn't a weapon? are kitchen knives weapons? i don't think so, but they're used in more than a few murders per year. same goes with many other things, on down to a rock.

I believe if a alien species made such a request it would want our weapons out of the way for negative reasons and would more than likely be lying to us. What would a outside group from another star system care of us having weapons or not? Why would they want us to be completely defenceless. Think of the europeans in their conquest of the americas for example. They would give the native americans blankets for no reason, just to be "kind". However those blankets were crawling with smallpox. So how do we know that the clean energy was even what they said it was and not a attempt to kill us off quicker? I believe we should either try a differrent attempt with the aliens, ask them for a more fair deal, or try to prove empiricaly that they realy had good intentions. If they good not provide complete proof that they had nothing but the purest intentions, than we should do what is nessesary to see them off.

What a good question. I think it would cause fear and chaos firstly because of the arrival of aliens in the first place. What does that do to people's belief in being made in the image of God? Then who would the aliens talk to first? whoever it was, it would **** off masses of other countries and leaders. I don't think anyone would be able to agree on a plan, I think countries would be afraid that other countries were hiding weapons, or the aliens were secretly on the side of one particular faction. Gosh, not a lot of faith in human nature popping up here in my answer. The aliens would just have to vapourise alll weapons to be sure, but then what about all our kitchen knives? Ultimately I think it would be best if the aliens exterminated the human race because we are crap.
It's early where I am and I have to start work now.
Bring on the aliens!

Nothing wrong with dreaming, but I would think that the aliens would be more interested in resolving our conflicts some way.
Taking the weapons wouldn't accomplish much because some lunatic would just make more and we eventually would be right back where we were.

You're assuming aliens would give a crap about us. It would be like starting in New York City and traveling the long way around on foot to a single certain Anthill in Africa to offer them one pepperment candy.
