I remember as a teen being so embarassed to ask my mother what something meant. But I also remember pretending to know what things meant when I had no idea. I hated that feeling. So when I had kids of my own I told them they could ask me anything. That I would rather them ask me, to get the right information than to ask someone else. My daughter is 23 now and she likes to tell her friends about the stick figures I use to draw to show her...lol. Talk to your mother, tell her how you feel. She will be relieved to know you are coming to her.

When I was a teenager, which hasn't been that long ago,(8 years)I was scared of asking a question someone thought I should already know the answer to and looking dumb. My suggestion would be, since it is hard to do a face to face with an adult at that age is tell your child to mabey write down some questions and leave them for you. Or find someone you trust to give the correct answers and tell you child to talk to them. It's better for them to ask anyone besides another teen there age thats not sure and could tell them a bad answer. Thats what I tell my 13 year old neice. If she can't ask her Mom, ask me, or another adult and not someone her own age that will just guess. I have a 8 year old, I'm already talking to her about who to trust to talk about certain things.

Teenagers are just becoming aware of their body. Unlike a grown adult woman, they are unable to fully understand their emotions and bodies. They're just confused, and probably feel uncomforable talking about it.

Really easy answer. As you get older you learn that human sexuality is normal. Everyone does it. Furthermore, it becomes less private as more people see your private parts.
After the first baby - most women are beyond the point of caring. So many people have seen - there is little mystery.
Just takes time to become comfortable... that is all.
