My baby just copies whatever he sees me doing. So just suck out of it and hand it over.
You may have better luck if you start with one of the non-spill proof ones (the ones that if you hold them upside-down) they drip as it is easier to get the liquid out so they get the idea faster.
As soon as your baby is physically capable of manipulating the cup they are old enough.
My baby drank out of a sippy cup at 6 months and the only thing he gets in it is water.

I started giving my son sippy cups early, like at 8 months...but just randomly so he got familiar with it until he got about 12 months I started giving it to him throughout the day in between 2 or 3 bottles a day. Now at 17 months he doesn't drink out of anything else.

I just took the bottle away at 10 or 11 months with both of my boys. If you dont' make a big deal out of it, they won't. Some parents have a harder time, but I didn't let the boys go to bed with a bottle or carry it around either. So when I switched, there was no separation anxiety on them. There is really nothing to teach them, they naturally know how to suck on it and tip it to get the juice or milk out.

about 9mos to a year..the baby needs to have developed her pincer grasp before understand ing how to use the sippy cup. Sippy cups are good for learning as they don't spill so much, and no baby can just lift the cup properly to the mouth..it gets turned every which way until they find the spot on their face it belongs to..their mouth...lol

try using one that has one of those soft nipple like tips. It was no time at all before my son used it. Tell him that it is a big boy cup. When he tries to sip from it, praise him. There were sippy cups that I bought and I couldn't figure out why my son wouldn't drink from them. I tried to suck out of it and realize how hard it was to suck out of. I found that the spill proof insert made it hard for him to drink from it so I took it out and let him drink from it without it, yes, that made it so when he tipped it it would leak, but at least he was using it, and after he got used to it, I started putting the spill proof insert back in it. There is no spill proof bottle I have ever seen, so no wonder he wouldn't suck out of it at first. I do not think it matters when you switch to one, my mom told me whenever my son sewemed ready. It washard in the beginning because of what I told you, but the sooner the better I think, just start using it when he is eating, but give him a bottle at night, you can slowly switch him like you would from breast to bottle.

My son was a year old when he started using sippy cups, and the best way that worked for me, when I was teaching him was doing it my self, and he would copy cat me, so. I hope everything works out for you.

I would put something in it that she likes to drink, not milk. With my son we used juice or watered down sprite. If it is something "special" they are more likely to want it. He was about 7 months when he started getting a sippy cup. He was tongue tied until then and couldn't suck well.

Around 10 or 11 months is a good age to start. Playtex is a good brand so I would say you've got a good one :-)
