treated as though we should feel sorry for them?

I do not feel sorry for people who have kids they can not take care of.

I not feel sorry for a woman who goes to get an abortion and gets heckled outside the murder palace.

I do not feel sorry for anyone who chooses not to work

What the heck happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY?

PS - Sh*t only "happens" if you let it happen (most of the time).

DiscMiss, that is where Personal Responsibilty comes in - not getting pregnant when you either dont want children or cannot afford them and for that Oh Sh*t time - then give it up for adoption to someone who can provide for it.

Your tirade has some merit my friend. I don't think necessarily that people want our 'pity', but I do believe we have engaged and supported a society of people who have become lazy and unwilling to push it to the limit to ensure they are working, able to support their families and care for their young. I teach 8th graders and I can't believe that I see in them the same attitudes you are speaking of. They are getting this 'spoon feed me attitude' from their parents. I have watched as a young man of 31 I know - who has been drugging for 8 years, go through one marriage, a relationship of 5 years and now is hooked up with a 2 time looser of a mother of two kids she does't even raise(fathers in jail) and has her pregnant with his child (maybe), It's the children I feel sorry for because they are probably going to be the ADHD/Bipolars in my class in the next 5-10 years. Yes, personal responsibility and accountability has much to be counted in these cases. All we can do is pray for them and hope that education and exposure to programs to help raise the level of self-esteem will help the next generation of people.

Are these people asking for your pity?
I find it hard to believe that people who choose not to work want your pity. What do they want pity for? If the unemployment is their choice they should have nothing to feel sorry about.
Likewise, a women getting an abortion and is heckled is not asking for your pity, she is asking for her right to choose to be upheld.
Finally, I think most women who have children they cannot take of just want help. Those circumstances are not always under their control.

Furthermore, isn't a contridiction to complain about women having kids they cannot afford and then complain about wome who get an abortion? There is already enough parentless children living in orphanages and in the streets around the world. Are you adopting them and taking care of any?

Ok What about girls how are raped or vicitms of incest? Not exactly their choice to have sex and get pregnant.
But obviously bad things never happen to you and you've never had to rely on others for help (tangible or intangible)..

You seem young, shallow, intolerant and lacking in any sort of life skills; perhaps you should walk a mile in their shoes for a while before you condemn people; I happen to agree with some of the "essence" of where you're coming from, but your lack of sensitivity and maturity only leaves you sounding childlike; plus with all the negativity you're spewing, it's only a matter a time before karma kicks in and bites you in the butt....

But sometimes S**T happens. And sometimes in our youth, we make mistakes. (I drank too much through college.) We may not have great guidance from teachers and parents. Our parents might have AIDS, might molest us, might neglect us. And then what do we end up doing?

We're not doing enough in urban areas to end the cycles. Sure, a hand-out is not going to solve anyone's root problems. But why not make sure they get some food and healthcare so that they and their innocent children live to see a social worker.
