Is anyone else out there shocked and dismayed that PJ is being dumped by New Line for the Hobbit? I'm feeling a little betrayed by big movie corporations. Pete and Fran and Philipa did such a wonderful job translating the books into movie scripts. I don't think anyone else will be able to work their magic.

yes I am and I have to say that they are making a huge mistake in there choice.

I hope PJ redoes it in a few years just to show them how it is to be done.

I still have some hope. As long as whoever takes over learns from what PJ did and follows the book, it should be good. As for betrayal, it's easy to say New Line is at fault, but without having the contracts and the exact terms of the dispute available, we can't actually be sure that's the case. Yes, it's far more common for the companies to screw the talent, but when the talent gets as big as PJ is getting, it doesn't always go down that way. I'm taking a wait and see attitude, although my optomism is certainly dropping.

i heard that too and was totally shocked if it wasn't for peter jackson they would never have brought jrr tolkiens books to the big screen. they're always some kind of dispute over money that the big corporation have to bark about but with the success of the trilogy why wouldn't someone be willing to take a chance.

I agree. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Not having Jackson do the Hobbit is like not having Sam Raimi do the Spiderman movies (even though they're not on the same level).

They probably were just mortified that he would show up at the Oscars looking like a disheveled wino in a cheap tux again...
