In my opinion, the best short stories are nearly non-fiction. Write about your own life, or an afternoon, or a silly conversation you've experienced with friends.

Big things usually don't happen to most people. While many like to read about them, many others are interested in characters they resemble who never win the lottery or don't get the girl.

Ten pages really isn't a whole lot of space for deep development. A good short story will write itself if you sit down with a pen and pad and just start writing for 10 minutes or so at a time.

Interesting isn't interesting to everybody, anyways.

O.K., maybe pick up on the Michael Richards thing and spin it into how he made a comeback after losing it on stage. Off course this would be a purely fictional account of some stand-up comedian who first gained notariety as a charactor on a famous sitcom.

All good writers write about what they know. Even fiction writers use their own knowledge as the basis for their work. Think of something that you love to talk about or do and write about that. The most important thing is that you do it correctly. Grammar, spelling, and so on. Get going!

Try writing about the thoughts of your house pet. How he sees your family culture & his opinions about the indvidual member of the family... and his other observations about family relatives & friends who come to visit... it's interesting to note to see life from the viewpoint of a dog, for instance.

Pimply, sexy teen thinks he's only too stable for Saturday night dinner at previous Aunt Mathilda's. Auntie isn't stupid. She gets it and she or he teaches him a lesson with reference to the fee of family members. (probably that's cliche, yet while so, supply me 3 examples of comments like it.)

~Why not write about some ignorant fool who was too lazy to, and lacked the creativity or imagination to, do his own homework and turned to a schmuck like me to do it for him?
