womens careers started out pretty mixed in regards to your choices above...it appears they were mostly working in the number 2 choice and many were also employed in textiles and manufacturing. thankfully those conditions have improved over the years although it has been slow. here is a great link that covers the history of working women.

OK, those are some really broad choices. Yeah, I would say most people--men and women--enter law, engineering, ministry, education, health care, social work, science, music, manufacturing, architecture or textiles because, really, there aren't many options left....

2. My mom, my grandmother were both teachers. It followed the schedule of their kids so it was a nuturing, socially-acceptable position. My great aunt was a registered nurse. That was also a nuturing position, available mainly due to wartime activities and the extra need.

Social worker? I guess. no proof there.
