Does any one know what type of birth defect that can cause a knee joint to grow in L-shape?

I have a birth defect that caused both of my knee joints to grow in L-shapes. I would really like to know what can cause it

Ask your doctor for sure, but my sister had this and it was that she did not have kneecaps. So I'm sure there are lots of different reasons.
