hi,
regarding least common denominator.....
In mathematics, the lowest common denominator or least
common denominator (abbreviated LCD) is the least
common multiple of the denominators of a set of vulgar
fractions.
It is the smallest (non-zero) number that is a multiple of
the denominators.
example.... lcd for 1/2 and 1/4 is 4 but that for 1/2 and 1/3 is 6..
By using this (or any multiple of it) as a denominator, it
enables addition, subtraction or comparison of fractions
4/15 +1/12 +3/8
= 32/120+10/120+45/120
=87/120

4/15+1/12+3/8=?
4/15x8/8=32/120
1/12x10/10=10/120
3/8x15/15=45/120
32/120+10/120+45/120=87/120
You add the numerator and the denominator stay the same. So the denominator is 120.

It is the LCM of 15 and 8.
Since 15 = 3*5
8 = 2*2*2
these 2 numbers have no factor in common.
So the answer is 15*8 = 120.
