Why using WEP (which is badly broken and trivial to crack to 10 year old next door) when your hardware supports WPA? (WRT54G interface >> Wireless >> Wireless Security >> select any WPA and set EXTERMALY long and strong key (length and strength of key is critical)). Its bit not clear what you mean by “manually inputting the IP and DNS etc”. What sort of IP you referring to and where you entering it? Depending what ISP you are using router can be set as DNS server or use ISP’s DNS servers which addresses should be auto detected without necessity of inputting anything. In any case people which would be more adequate in addressing encryption problems would be Linksys tech support (not Nintendo) and they have free 24/7 phone tech support (USA: (800) 326-7114):

Try resetting your wireless router.
