Is it necessary, or do you go without? Is it just a personal choice or is there some real reason why its better to wear them. Its obvious that if your a guy and playing soccer you want to hold "it" in, or a girl on her period...but those other times. Why bother?

It keeps your clothes cleaner and fresher, so you don't have to wash them as much, you wouldn't want to go commando in a pair of jeans for two days in a row. eww.
Its easier on your clothes if you dont have to wash them as much, and it gives you an excuse to buy pretty, frilly, overpriced lingerie that makes you feel pretty and a little bit naughty (no one can see what youre wearing! its a rush!)
and its something that hubbies appreciate.

No reason at all! For the folks talking about 'stains' need to clean up their mess! It's stuff you don't need and companies make a fortune from them. Commando for life!

I only wear them if I feel like it. Obviously if I am working out or wearing a skirt...they are a good idea.
There are many reasons we use them. Obviously, if you are a girl, you have to take into account your time of the month or things will get messy.
Also, I like pretty underwear.
Other than that, I think people mostly do it because they have been trained since birth to wear them.
Maybe they reduce chafing too. Hehe.

they were invented to absorb leakage of some sort or accidents ,so that it would not show on your outer clothing.
plenty of people go with out under wear ,i did for a time as a sexy kid in tight jeans,but returned to the underwear soon after.
Scottish men do not wear anything under their kilts
there are no rules wear or dont wear , what you want

I don t wear underwear other than to be socially acceptable in a locker room situation. Actually, in hot weather, they CAUSE a rash, without them the "boys" are hanging a little freer and not sweating as much!

underwear has always been worn to keep your outer clothes clean as the norm was to change underwear daily and wear outer clothes for a week!

Girls should always wear underpants, they are naturally wet down there and shouldn't be showing dark stains from their vaginas.

I would chalk it up to hygiene... girly parts can get messy when it is that time of the month, or if you are preg. (like me). My hubby says guys wear them to hold things in.

it is really keep the odor and and to keep your clothes clean. Your clothes can smell if you have no underwear.
