I know only 10% of pregnant women's water breaks at the onset of labour, but is it more likely for my water to break if my mother's water broke with me?

No its not hereditary, only a quarter of labour begin with the waters breaking, This means that you may have your waters break before labour occurs during one pregnancy but then your next pregnancy they don't. Its nothing to do with your family history or anything else just when the baby breaks the waters. Its all chance, every pregnancy is different and so is every labour and birth. It is common to follow in your mothers footsteps in time wise during labour but this is not guaranteed, if your mother had long 24hour labour expected you may have a long labour to. This has not been proved but its common that if your mother had a shortish labour you may also have a short labour, everything depends on your baby and your body, so you may be the same or the opposite.

I recommend you have no expectations for labour as they are normally nothing like the experience.
Me personally, with my son I was in labour for 9 hours and his waters broke minutes before delivery. My daughter however, my waters broke 3 hours and 20 mins before her birth with a 55 min labour. I expected at leased 6 hours of labour but the baby picks the speed and how it happens, you have no control so just keep a open mind and be positive and let things take its course.

Best of luck.

Sometimes water will break at the onset or a doctor may break it, which may help induce labor. It's different with every woman and every pregnancy. My mom had 12 pregnancies and had her water broken for several of them. My water broke at the onset with both my children.

sure, apparently, inspite of the undeniable fact that Sarah Palin became surely 8 months pregnant on the time. each and each airline makes their own regulations on permitting or disallowing pregnant women folk. Alaska airlines has no such rule and thinks it is going to likely be as much as the girl and her scientific service (a expert-determination place to make particular). The Governor, a vocal anti-determination Republican, chosen to return to Alaska to have her 5th newborn inspite of right here hazard factors: a million. She became leaking amniotic fluid (her water broke) increasing the hazard of an infection. 2. She became 40 4 years previous, a risky age for childbirth. 3. the toddler she became wearing had time-honored "particular annoying circumstances" (down syndrome) 4. the youngster became one finished month untimely. 5. She flew from Texas to Alaska on a commercial airline (Alaska airlines) jointly as jointly as leaking amniotic fluid, a ten or extra hour flight relying on the dimensions and placement of her layover. 6. She did no longer tell any of the airline artwork tension of her condition. inspite of the undeniable fact that, Gregg Erickson, a reporter from the Anchorage on an popular basis information, advised the on an popular basis Kos that the rumors that she became by no ability pregnant were investigated and debunked. So apparently that those behaviors are no longer those of a guy or woman faking/masking up a being pregnant yet in basic terms those of somebody with undesirable, undesirable judgment.

I don't think so, my sister's water broke with both of her pregnancies and my mom never broke and she had 3 kids, my grand mother had 4 and I believe her broke with only 2 of them so, I don't think it is hereditary.

my sister's water didn't break, and neither did our mom's. i think water breaking has more to do with randomness than anything else, according to her ob-gyn. also, depends if u carry to term, or how much the baby weighs, and if there is excess amniotic fluid. good luck with your pregnancy!!

I think it is but, I am not sure! My moms did and mine did too.

I think it is more common for yours to break if momsdid but not really hereditary ( than some one whose mom did not)

I think it is up to your body and has nothing to do with what your mother went through.

no. its due to a lot of different factors.. position of the baby, size of the baby. strength of the sac (which just depends on how/when its formed).
