Playing poker on-line isn't illegal but there is a new law recently passed that makes it illegal for financial institution's to process transactions with offshore gaming sites. The law was snuck through congress as an amendment to an unrelated port security bill that was almost guaranteed to pass. The net effect is that some large publicly traded companies such as party.com and 888.com have closed their doors to American customers. The good news is that a few companies are taking a stand against this ridiculous legislation and not only are they continuing to welcome American players they are working alongside groups like the Poker Player's Alliance to help set things right.
