No, it is not real. However, it is a good pastime (LOL).

A real horoscope is a MAP of Space-Time - an "image of the hour" as its Greek root words imply. It is a chart of where the Sun and Moon and Planets are located in Space and in relation to each other, and to a particular place on Earth, at a particular instant in Time.

It is like a snapshot of "a particular place in Time and Space". If that instant in Time is the time of birth of an individual and the Space is his birth place, then that horoscope is called a "natal horoscope" or "natal chart" or "birth chart". When you ask an astrologer for "a birth chart" be sure to provide your month/day/year and town/state/country of birth (plus the hour/minute if you know).

Those "daily horoscope" columns for the 12 zodiac signs are only based on an assumed month and day of birth which falls within a range of dates when the Sun is in a particular Sign. They are generalized "Sun Sign" horoscopes, but they do not take into account the year (or hour and minute) you were born, or the town and country you were born in.

Since your "Time and Space" are not really known, these so-called "horoscopes" are only based on an estimate of where the Sun was located on your date of birth, and thus are far less detailed and accurate as a Personal Horoscope Reading based on your full birth data - which will include the positions of the Moon and ALL the Planets, and what that means about you as a unique individual. Not even identical twins can be born in the same Space at the same Time.

Well besides giving you a simple no answer, I'll explain one reason as to why this is. ;)

When the horoscope was first "invented", for the lack of a better word, they used constellations from quite a while ago. It is scientifically proven that constellations move around so the constellations which horoscopes are based on are no longer where they are supposed to be. And if you're basing your future on something that isn't there, how accurate can it be?

Plus if you notice, most of the horoscopes are very vague. It could happen to anyone on any day, really!

And, to top it all, don't you think that if you want something to come true, your brain will subconsciously make it come true? If that makes sense. :)

Well if ur a teen, most of the question u'd ask an astrologer would come out to be true... cause they have a 50/50 chance of being correct.

No it's not real, but u can have fun reading a horoscope from the newspaper. But don't waste money on individual readings, without a star chart... majoirity of it is guessing.

Hard work, determination and compassion will get u alot farther in life. U will go far in life my friend...

The best way to prove horoscopes are all false is to question the astrologer about what you are going to do tomorrow. Questions like will I clear an exam, etc. are easy to answer coz 65% of the time, you would clear the test anyways.

Another great question to the astologer is to predict if Pakistan is going to win against New Zealand. Coz questions like will Australia win against Bangladesh are easy giveaways.

According to me, it is impossible to predict the future and the closest you would get to that is the doctor predicting a person suffering from cancer would live for six months coz of the severity of the disease. Or an economist predicting the prices are going to rise coz of the impending war.

To believe in horoscope, I need reason. My success in academics (BITS Pilani) and my success in life (Business Analyst) are attributed to my horoscope but to me its purely a result of my hardwork. Imagine me trusting in my horoscope and sitting at home answering questions on yahoo answers and believing I would still achieve BITS Pilani and Business Analyst! Yeah sure!!!

Humans are yet to find out answers for so many things.

We are yet to land even on our neighbouring planet (i didn't mean Rover but humans).

Instead of rubbishing "horoscope", lets keep it until we get all the answers.

Forget all logical statements in horoscope. Lets admire the formula developed by our ancestors thousands of years ago. They could pin point the planetary positions even without seeing it.

Science of astronomy is way behind thousands of years.

It need lot of calculations by Scientists / Astronomers to decide the planetory position. Whereas any layman (semi educated) in India, just by refering the almanac (book of planetary formulas I would say) can say in a flick of a second the planetary positions.

What our scientist said a few decades ago, is disputed by our present scientist. As we advance we know more and more.

But in astrology we are yet to reach that stage.

Nope, but who cares! They are still fun! Anyway, they are not made to predict the future, if they were real they would be there to spell out situations and your status on luck, not to say exactly what will happen to you.

the thing is...
if you read a horoscope what you read about will most likely happen because you want it to to prove it to yourself it is but if you are expecting it not to happen it won't. it is all psychology.
