yes your e-machine computer will support windows XP. Here are the system requirements for Windows XP

1.300MHz or higher processor. Intel pentium, celeron or AMD K6, athlon, or duron.
2.128 MB of Ram. 64 MB supported, may limit performance and features.
3. 1.5 GB of availabe Hard Drive space.

These are the minimum requirements for running Windows XP. I would suggest first upgrading your processor speed and your memory and THEN installing windows XP. At the rates you gave, installing XP on that machine would be like installing the new windows Vista on a machine ment for windows 3.1.

If you have windows 98 on back up then why not give a try to XP. But you will have uninstall windows 98 then you will install XP.

I think now you will not have updates and help for Windows 98 from Microsoft. Having a new version is best and safe.

Point to remember: Always keep back up of data

If you up the RAM to 256, You'd be better off, but you will be very limited on what you can do. You will probably only be able to run one thing at a time. I put windows XP in my parents computer which has the same 466mhz intel as yours and it does work, but like I said, it'll JUST works. It's fine for what they use it for, but would never work for what I use it for.

Yes, in thery it should work fine, other than maybe a little slow, the other problem you might find is the ammount of HD space that XP takes up.... its about 2.5 GB gone just installing XP, but yes... you could instal it, although you might regret it :)

You can, but I wouldnt reccomend it. It might run too slow. I have a 700Mhz laptop I put XP on, it runs OK, but I only use it for web browsing, and playing music.
