Okay, my MIL says her dog is a Selkie. She says that according to myth, it was a seal, blah blah blah, I didn't listen well to her, and now it's stuck being a dog.

Today I came across the legend of the Selkie in a book, and it seems they are seals who strip off their skins to become human- not dogs.

Do dogs tie into the legend at all? Or is my MIL making stuff up? Again?

No dogs do not tie into the legend at all. Either it iss a bad attempt to pull your leg or a good attempt to get on your nerves; which I understand completely. If it's not on of the above then yes your mother in law is certifiable or stupid or both. Again I understand completely my mother on loaw is both.

Maybe it is a sulky selkie cause it's dog fur is not silkie. Actually I think the big black dog of legend figures in there somewhere. I think it is called a grimm
