We want to go "wireless" in our house, but I don't understand what we need. How many parts do we really need? We have two desktops now and eventually will get a notebook. Need to understand the basics of routing/networking requirements.
Thanks

if you have high speed internet (I.E. cable dsl satalite...) you need one wireless router ( http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=145&name=Wireless-Routers ) try getting a 802.11g 54 or 108 Mbps, then you will need an adapter for each computer either PCI ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=2050410031+1133010139&Subcategory=31&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc= ) or a USB adapter ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=2050410031+1133010001&Subcategory=31&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc= ) then when you get a notebook try getting one with a integrated wireless card or get a USB or a wireless notebook adapter (make sure it will work with your laptop first) ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&Description=wireless+notebook+adapter&Submit=ENE&N=0&Ntk=all )

--PS--
dont buy any of this stuff in stores... you can get it MUCH cheaper from http://www.newegg.com/

Going wireless is very simple nowadays. I am assuming you have a broadband connection. If not you need to get a DSL connection or Cable internet. The next step would be to get a wireless router. You can buy a wireless router for cheap from BestBuy or Circuit City. Connect your wireless router to your broadband modem and enable wireless. For your Desktop PC's you need to buy wireless cards. You can either buy an internal wireless card or you can get a USB one. Install the wireless card, install the drivers for them from the CD that comes with the card and you are good to go.

Nowadays all the laptops come with built in wireless so you don't need to buy anything for the laptop. Just boot the laptop and connect to your wireless network.

A broadband connection would be the first thing that you might want to have. Then you need a wireless router to connect to the modem and you need each PC to have a wireless adapter to connect to the router. That is it! Good luck
