Its Great He didnt Break The Skin, No Quarentine Issues or Rabie Crap...I assume he Must be a good sized dog to have your hand swollen. I have been Bitten a few times, One time badly ,With Ripping , Bruising,(I had to see a Surgeon) I know What your talking about! The Dog somehow gave you a Crushing
bite, But Luckily somehow you skin didnt get torn, I had to have X-rays Galore and I would advise you to go seek Medical treatment. You kinda NEED your hand! Its probably OK but could have a small bone broken or nerve damage.. The Swelling Is a Good Clue! Hope All turns out Well!

chances of infection are small if no major break
in the skin. Frozen peas and heat the next day.
If there is a break, it will still hurt after a few days.
If not much, than it will be OK. Nerve damage
can take several months to heal.

If it is swollen, and you can only close it half way, you need to get it looked at by a doctor.
It could have caused a small break in the skin that you can't see, and it could be infected.
Or you could have soft tissue damage.
Or there could be a break of one or more of the bones in your hand.

Dog bites are serious, dogs have alot of bacteria in their saliva. Also you will need to call and see if your cousins dog is current on the rabies vaccination. The doctor will need to know it. The fact that it is swelling is an indication that something is wrong. Go to emergency. God BLESS YOU! I hop it is not badly infected! sus04mc@yahoo.com

For now try icing it and see if the swelling goes down. You should probably wait for about a day and then see how it is then. If it still hurts and is swollen go and see a doctor.
FEEL BETTER!

if it gets any worse go to the doctor but for now just ice it using frozen peas in a bag and then use a heating pad to heat it. See if that helps and if not go to a doctor
