He was alive earlier today when I went to his website. Nothing was posted about him dying, or in bad health. VH-1 hasn't reported anything, nor has Reuters music news.
Petty is big enough where a story like that would've hit the news sources right away.
"Highway Companion" was released a month ago and he sounded at the top of his game.
