hey yo pana derek jeter did not deserve to win the mvp let's be real here for a minute justin morneau's numbers were way better then derek jeter's were and why should any yankee win any awards at all hell when you have as much talent as the yankees have then you are expected to produce and are supposed to produce so why should you be rewarded for something that you are supposed to do and are expected to do and hell like i said his numbers weren't even as good as justin morneau's were

I don't think you could argue with the choice either way. Morneau carried the Twins offensively with his power and RBI. Jeter in the 2 spot in the line up still drove in 97 but the intangibles he brings with his clutch hitting and leadership are things that don't show up on a stat sheet. I also think that Jeter makes a bigger impact defensively than Morneau. Do the Yankees win without Jeter? Yes, I think so. Do the Twins win without Morneau? No.
So I think Morneau deserved the award. By the way, I'm a Yankee fan.

Aw come on, another "Jeter should have one MVP" Question? This is worst than Terell Owens.

No he didn't deserve to win. He is full of all-stars and Morneau only has... actually only 2 all-stars. Luis Castillo and Joe Mauer.

And come on, Yankees had a winning record since the start of the season, the Twins? Because of Morneau they bounced back from a 12 game below .500 at the half up to a... what? 30 some games above the .500

If not Morneau then Dye should have one.

Look, I consider him a saint because he hasn't strangled A-Rod yet. But being your everyday Ohioan, I think I have enough healthy respect (and not man-love) that I can be pretty unbiased. He was 4th in the league at OBP at .417, behind Manny, Hafner, and Mauer. Morneau wasn't that close at .375, but guys in the MVP race like Ortiz (.413), Thome (.416), and Giambi (.413) were pretty close to him. His slugging percentage was obviously not as high, but that is not his game. For a leadoff hitter, however, it wasn't even that phenomonal. Jeter was at .483 SLG. Carl Crawford of Tampa was at .482. Johnny Damon was at .482. Joe Mauer was .507, Sizemore was .533, Cano was at .525. Carlos Guillen (who actually led his team to the WS) was at .519.

Ignore RBI's, folks. I don't care that he had all those RBI's...the lineup was stacked from 1-9. Plus, Jeter struck out over 100 times. I know he is supposed to have "intagibles". Yes, he does. But I think Vlad Guerrero has similar intangibles and better stats. My ballot would have been:
1. Joe Mauer
2. Vlad Guerrero (nearly got his team to the playoffs single-handedly)
3. Frank Thomas
4. Justin Morneau
5. Johan Santana
6. Derek Jeter
7. Jason Giambi
8. David Ortiz
9. Manny Ramirez
10. Carlos Guillen (and I think he deserves to be about number 4 or 5, but I will tone it down).

GETTIN OLD,DECLINING. NO WAY DEREK, Jeter ranked second in the American League with a .343 batting average and 118 runs scored, fourth with a .417 on-base percentage and sixth with 34 stolen bases. Jeter also drove in 97 runs out of the No. 2 spot in New York's lineup.

"Johnny" Congratulations you put together an AL MVP top 10 list without the best player in the AL last year on it , Jermaine Dye...

Morneau was the MVP
Dye was the best player in the AL
Mauer #3
Jeter only because Yankees made the playoffs, as for his play at short you have to be kidding! Jeter ranked #23 defensively among "full time" ML shortstops...

It's time to worry about pitching and put the MVP award behind.

Besides, one could argue, from a team contribution view that Chien Ming Wang should have won it or even Mariano. (considering how weak the Yankee pitching was, we couldn't even get out of the divisional series against Detroit because of our woeful pitching)

No, Derek Jeter shouldn't have won the MVP award. There is no way he was the best player in the AL this year, let alone on his own team. Yes, he may be the leader but not the best. Like it or not, Jeter is getting old doing what older players do...decline.

I am a die-hard Yankee fan and I really can't understand why Jeter or Big Poppy didn't win.

There were several people who deserved it more than Jeter or Morneau (especially Jeter).

That includes Jermaine Dye, Joe Mauer, Frank Thomas, David Ortiz, and Travis Hafner.

I realize some of them are DH's, but every team HAS to have a DH. Do you think Ortiz can just go up to Francona and say "I WANNA PLAY THE FIELD!" ?
