Looking for some good Russian classical music... Want to buy a CD or two of this type of music as a gift. Person receiving gift told me a few days ago that they like Russian classical music, sort of from the Czar time period. I guess there's a lot of horns in it too? I really don't know much about it, but if you have any suggestions about a good composer or CD compilation to get, please let me know! Thanks!

Rachmaninov is not tzar era, but he is great. Tzar era music does not have horns, lol. The person you are talking about probably likes Tchaikowsky, but this person might have this cd already.
Look up Smetana if you can find it, the person will be delighted.
Cheers :)

If you enjoy choral music, you would love the harmonys of Russian Eucharistic hymns or any acapella hymns. There is no choral music quite so profound. You can find CDs of this music.
