because according to the string theory, universes sometimes touch each other, Im jus wondering whether we see these "ghosts" at that precise moment when the universes touch?

Im not on DRUGS!! I just sometimes wonder about these things, am I weird or do any of you share or understand what Im saying here?

Actually, I have a similar theory - I reckon that when you see 'ghosts' they could either be images from alternate universes like you said, or I prefer to say other dimensions, as I believe there may be countless numbers of other dimensions which must over lap with ours. Since everything, by which I actually mean absolutely EVERYTHING, is made of vibrating energies, some very strong, some weaker, 'ghosts' could be images formed by very weak energy/veryslow vibrations, while you and I are made up of strong, fast vibration which give us density and substance. These weaker energies/slower vibrations are probably less tied to a particular dimension and therefore slip more easily between them.

I understand what you are saying, and it depends on how much you understand physics. Though I don't think it is the string theory you are thinking of. It sounds more like the super string theory. In the string theory time runs in a straight line. The super string theory sais that space time can stretch or bend due to the affects of gravity. Another thing to keep in mind is we only know of four dimensions. Height, with, length, and time, but suspect there may be up to ten dimensions. If our brains can only process four dimensions we would not be able to see the others. Imagine you were a two dimensional person, (essentially a stick person drawn on a piece of paper). Someone could put you in jail by drawing a circle around you, and you couldn't step out. Now if someone in our three dimensional world came to your world you would see that person disappear and reappear on the other side of your jail cell. How could this be? Well the person from the third dimension just stepped over the circle. All you would know as a two dimensional person would be up down left and right. You would have no concept of height, or depth, so you would not see how the person got to the other side of the wall, just the fact that they did. So I guess in short the answer to your question is yes, it is a possibility that the "ghosts" people see are from a higher dimension.

Why is this in Physics?

First, Sting Theory is actually not considered a scientific theory in the strictest sense since we don't have the mathematical tools to dissect it. Right now it's at best an hypothesis that's being filed under "neat idea, let's come back to it later".

Second, The question assumes the existance of Ghosts is fact. It's not.

Third, The question assumes alternate universes have been proven to exist. They have not. Quantum Mechanics points in that direction so it's much better off then ghosts but they have not been proven to exist.

That being said, IF string theory turns out to be a viable theory and IF alternate universes exist and IF ghosts turn out to be more then hoaxes or tricks of the mind then sure, why not?

Interesting view, but Ghosts could be also overlaping images from Future or Past. Once time is curve, perhaps basis of the waves could almost touch. Time having a form of a immense fractal.

Another idea within your mind exercise:
I never heard about consistent theories about Alternative universes, but I've heard about matematical formulas proving several dimensions.

Once we are linving in Three dimensions (perhaps we can consider time as a 4th), then some being that are only able to see any other 5 dfimensions would never see us...

Example: Could comics characters understand real 3D or they would be chained into a perspective like universe without comprehend our 3D/4D dimension. Perhaps we are seeing just shadows from other dimensions.... or our reverberations from our shadows through this dimensions.

This parallell universe thing is a theory it cant be proved in any way since we will not be able to prove it most people try to look at logical answers on earth one of which is perception maybe ghosts dont exist maybe they are a perception or hallucination brought on by to much stress or just a random subconcious thought. honestly while you people are reading this page how many people are like becoming creeped out or looking around the room. do u see what i mean. my explanation is that maybe a long time ago something unexplainable happened so people blamed it on paranormal activites and ever since then we tend to believe in these things. in order to belive my explanation you have to realise that the human brain is a powerful thing and can make u believe anything so any sound or action that is un explainabl the brain usually exaggertes.

also if other dimensions do exist it can only exist within a median of time making our time a 4th sooo its seems way to unrealisitc

p.s sorry about the bad spelling im in a terrible rush

I saw the documentaries on string theory too. That was pretty cool stuff they were talking about. I believe what they were saying is when the membranes of these Universes touch or collide into one another, they create a new Big Bang or new Universe. I've never thought about using string theory for explaining the paranormal. Not a bad idea though. Who knows...anything is possible.

BTW...some people just don't like to expand their minds. So there's no need to explain why you're asking such a question. It's a ligitimate question if you know what string theory is.

I'm not on drugs either, but probably see you in the loony bin?!

Well I clearly live in an alternative universe to some of you guys because I have never ever seen a ghost or anything remotely like one.

You talk as if its commonplace to see them , as far as I know the scientific community would generally consider that no such thing exists outside of peoples minds, inside of course is another matter.

As far as string theory goes, if I remember correctly, that a 26 dimensional system is the most favourable, but this is a completely untested theory in terms of real experimental proofs.

String Theory also says that there is anouther version of YOU in an infinite number of parrallel universes. Does that make you a ghost, too?

Nobody can know for sure.

The last time I saw a ghost, I was in my bed asleep. I thought I was dreaming until the next day, my dad said that he saw my recently deceased aunt too. We either shared a dream or we saw a ghost- but since I thought I was dreaming at the time I didn't realize I may have seen a ghost until it was too late to do further observation and analysis. Ghosts are tricky that way, you have to be quick to stay ahead of them.
