Tell your boss. If that doesn't work, then tell their boss and so forth... If all that fails, then look for a legal solution -- file a formal complaint -- in short, do something about it.

In the meantime, while you're working on all that -- it might be a good time to find another position in that company or a new job -- Noone should have to put up with that abuse.

Good luck!

If you haven't already politely ask him to stop. He might, he might not, he might be embarrassed, he might turn spiteful.

Make a careful note of all the particular incidents you can remember, in as much detail as you can. Then keep a diary of anything else that does happen after you ask him to stop, making sure that you get things down on paper as soon as possible afterwards when your memory's fresh and noting names of any witnesses present.

If the obnoxious behaviour doesn't stop then make a formal complaint of sexual harassment under your company's procedures, including all of the detail you have in the diary. It's important that the complaint is detailed and comprehensive because there's always a good chance your employers will try to minimise what's happened, suggest it's just a 'personality clash' and/or deal with the matter ' informally' via a meaningless slap on the wrist. The strength of your statement is vital to proving a continuing pattern of harassing conduct.

If you need to make a complaint, ask for help and support from your union if that's available. If not you should ask to be accompanied to any meetings by a work colleague for support. This is an entitlement under the Employment Relations Act where you have made a complaint of this nature.

None of this is pleasant and, in the short term, going through this process is very difficult. You'll be glad you did once you get to the other side, though.

All the best - if the sleaze doesn't stop he'll deserve everything you give him.

I would think most companies have rules for sexual harrassment. If you have an employee handbook or administrative manual, go through it and see if it mentions sexual harrassment and see what the rules are. Otherwise, you should go to the personnel manager and ask what the company rules are regarding that. If you have a union, you could find out by contacting the union. If you don't have a union and can't find the answer at the local level, contact the corporation heardquarters and ask for a copy of the personnel and administrative guides. If all else fails, get advice from an attorney and do as he suggests. If you can't do all of above, just go in and tell your boss and ask for him to see that this man quits bothering you. If he does nothing, just try to file a lawsuit against him and the one hitting on you and make sure you have witnesses so you will win and they will have to pay court costs.

Sounds like sexual harassment to me. The UK law states that it is the perception of the individual (being harassed) to decided whether or not it is acceptable.

I suggest you make a diary of events/comment etc of his behaviour around you. Write every detail down, so that you can read it back to yourself and decide if you want to tell your boss. If you do, your diary will be used to investigate the matter. Yes, it is a serious complaint and could damage the relations you have with your colleague, so be absolutely sure of what you are doing (so keep this diary up to date).

Your boss may just laugh...but if he/she has half a brain cell then it would be a nervous laugh cos its a serious complaint. If they do not do anything, go to another manager or the Human Resource Dept (if you have one). Make sure you get it sorted though, because the more you allow it to go on, the more you are condoning his behaviour...

Unless you like being disrespected and offended at work everyday - especially if you are not welcoming these advances, you need to tell his boss, if he doesn't listen, go to someone in Human Resourses, and don't be afraid to get some kind of proof that this is going on. If no one in your company is interested in hearing your side of the story, go to a lawyer who specializes in Sexual Harrasment - I am sure he/she will be willing to listen to you! And after this guy you work with gets the whole company sued, he won't have a job and will have a hell of a time finding a new one!!

Look up your country's harassment policy. If your boss just laughs and ignores your concerns, you may have grounds to sue!

Certainly, do tell your boss, and if doesn't take you seriously, take legal action. You shouldn't have to put up with this.

Tell your boss and if he laughs tell him he won't laugh if it gets so serious that you will have to take further action (legal). I suffered this 3 times and it ain't no joke.
