Yes they can do it legally. They tell you on the first day of school that you cannot have them or they will be taken from you. Sometimes they give them back at the end of the year. Sometimes they call your parents and tell the parents to come and get it. But it also states that in the Code of Conduct book that every child (at least in Alabama) gets on the first day of EVERY school year. Parents AND student have to sign it and turn it in.
