There are a few possibilities here:
1. Your actual time of conception might have been miscalculated. Believe it or not, a very small percentage of women still get a period the first couple month of pregnancy. Its usually lighter than average, but sometimes it seems very normal to women. Because doctors use when you missed your last period to initially measure how far along you are, this may not be entirely accurate if you did, in fact bleed the first month or two after concieving. This IS a longshot, but its possible you may be farther along than you think.
2. It could just be the way your body is responding. In pregnancies there is "norms" that we follow, but EVERY woman, her body, and her baby, are DIFFERENT. Perhaps you are showing sooner, and maybe it will taper off and plateau, where you won't grow anymore for a long time because you started so soon. Or maybe your body is just very bloated and collecting a lot of water weight gain, and you look swollen and bigger because of that. I'm not sure of your size pre-pregnancy, but many very petite and thin girls tend to look "bigger" and show sooner because they were so tiny to begin with. You also have to ask yourself, how much more have I been eating? Maybe you need to measure your caloric intake.
3. God forbid, maybe your baby is growing rapidly, and there's some sort of problem that needs to be addressed. This is probably not the case, but whenever something arises that concerns you, you should always contact your physician and/or midwife. Its better to be safe than sorry- no mother can ever be TOO concerned when it comes to their child. Why don't you talk to a professional and ask them to check you out and see what's going on? Have them do some blood work to make sure your levels are normal, and have them check the baby to see how its growing. They will be able to give you more concrete answers to ease your mind than anyone on yahoo answers could!
4. Its possible there could be more than 1 baby in there!
Best of luck to you, and blessings to your family. :)

well, 5 weeks pregnant is actually only 3 weeks, if you think about it the first week is your period and the second one is ovulation so they don't really count. Your baby is nothing yet, I don't mean to sound mean or nothing but really even if you had more than one there is just NO WAY to be showing right now. If you were already over weighed maybe you are eating too much, now that you are pregnant you might just be eating too much, too much excitement maybe? watch what you eat, you don't want to gain a lot. Have you been to the doctor yet? have they told you how much weight to gain? I was over weighed when I got pregnant too and I was only allowed to gain 15 pounds, I am 7.5 months pregnant and I have only gained 10 pounds, I am proud of myself, it will be easier to loose the baby weight and it will help breastfeeding too, I think you should really watch your gain weight, another thing is, if you feel like you are gaining a lot pretty fast you might want to let your doctor know because that is a sign or gestational diabetes and you don't want to have that. If you are not drinking plenty of water you might be retaining liquids so that can cause the weigh gain t too.

it rather is water good now, no longer toddler. in spite of twins or triplets at 5 weeks there is amazingly little thank you to tell. Your hormones are changing (working wild is extra like it) and that they are going to consequence your weight earnings, your metabolism and your physique retaining water, this is it. decrease your salt intake and don't hassle weight earnings isn't in basic terms popular inspite of the undeniable fact that this is a good sign in being pregnant!! additionally, this would not recommend you will earnings somewhat some weight in the being pregnant, it has no longer something to do with it. some women folk earnings plenty before everything, then decelerate plenty till approximately 6 months, others earnings weight good via and a few purely on the tip. Your physique is familiar with what it rather is doing purely permit it :) Congratulations!

Not to burst your bubble but its fairly common to misjudge OR some women get their period while they are pregnant, sometimes throughout the pregnancy, i got a light period until i was 3 months pregnant with my daugter, Are there twins in the family? Most of the time its just your body and water weight, hormones are changing and it causes you body to do some freaky things sometimes..i suggest you speak with you doctor...he can also confirm exactly how far along you are, period dates mean nothing ..it happens all the time.

I am 5 weeks too and I am right there with you. People have told me that I might be having twins... but I think they are kidding right? This is my first time around I am thinking it's just water, if you are drinking juice though it's good for you, mix it with water. When I saw your question i was like YES I am not the only one! Sorry though I know it does suck thinking it's only 5 weeks what will I look like at 9 months. and I have been asked that too... maternity clothes has been bought this pas weekend.

I had this problem, although I am really small framed. I started showing at 5 weeks! This is my 3rd pregnancy, and we thought maybe I wa farther along. Ultrasound showed I was right on time though... and only seen one baby! They say the more you have the more you show, lol, guess so. Just consult your dr. and you could request an ultrasound. Good Luck!

if you haven't been... go to the doctor. Get the ultrasound, you may be further along than you believe.
But remember, every pregnancy is different. I've seen women showing at 5 weeks and I've seen women who barely show at 9 months. It's all in how you carry.

If you are showing that much @ 5 week's i suggest you get an ultra sound(scan) because it sound's like a multiple pregnancy(twins or more! ).
