Go to start, control panel, system, hardware and then device manager. Click on modem and see if it has a yellow spot on it.. that will tell you there is a problem, you might just need to download a good driver for it to work.

In Control Panel, click on the modem icon. While in the properties section you will see a diagnostics link under more information. This will tell you if the modem is working properly. If it is not working properly, it may be having a conflict with other hardware. Try setting the modem to use a different com port. If that still does not work, try removing the modem from system devices, then reboot and see if it is found on restart. This may be all you need. If you do need a driver to get it working try visiting http://www.driverguide.com and pick one for the model and OS. These are rated so get the highest rated one you can find. Hope this helps
